The Differential Grasshopper is 1 1/2 inches in length.  Found throughout much of the US, this grasshopper inhabits weedy grasslands and open woods.  Food items consumed include both grasses and forbs.  Agricultural crops and pasture species are also fed on, and large outbreaks of these grasshoppers may cause serious damage.  Eggs are laid in the soil during summer and hatch the following spring.
